The time of departure is rapidly approaching! At this time tomorrow I'll already be aboard an aircraft destined for my maiden European voyage. Wheee!

My plan is to hit a cyber-cafe at least every two weeks. I'll be checking my usual email address so if you have something to say, that's the best place to say it to me. I'll also be updating my Live Journal.

Watch George and Carol live la doche vita across the Atlantic! Experience our travels and tribulations vicariously! You, too, may travel through the ages of western civilization with us on our grand tour of time and culture! (How am I doing with this sales pitch so far? If it isn't working yet, I've got my one last ace in the hole... get ready, here it is...) Also, this is your lifeline for European goodies if we end up sending home a care package. We certainly don't have room in our suitcases for any souvenirs as I am having trouble just fitting a change of clothes in there. *grimace* If we end up buying anything, we'll have to ship it home ahead of us and I'll let you know here so you can put in requests.

I can promise pictures galore and that you will all be with me in my travels. I'd never leave my family behind. *warm hugs to you all*

Are you going to Rome? If so, my request isn't for trinkets. I have two.
1) Please place your hand in the Bocca della Verita - the Mouth of Truth...like in "Roman Holiday" and while your hand is in there ask it to send some truth to me regarding my destiny and who I should spend my life with.
2)Find the most romantic fountain and please toss a coin in for me, wishing the same thing.

That's all for me!

*big hug*

have fun. I'll miss you terribly.

If you feel like it, send a postcard (or bring one back)- I collect' em.

And in the extremely unlikely event that you run across this, get one, send it to me, and I'll pay you back double: It's a poster, essentially a really good aerial photo of Rome, sometimes called the Pianta di Roma. It's also a really godawful nice expensive book (aerial photos and maps in sequence), which I couldn't afford, so don't get that.

The Bocca della Verita is in the porch of Santa Maria in Cosmedin - if you go there, be sure to go inside. It was one of my favorite churches in Rome, mostly for it's age, simplicity, and dark richness. It went through several Roman incarnations before becoming a christian church, I think as a waystation or some kind of infirmary or something (memory fails me). I generally found the early churches to be much more spiritually satisfying, even though I'm not Christian. It just was more about the faith than about the power and influence of the church.

Hm... Make sure you visit the Pantheon. And the market at the Campo dei Fiori (my old stomping grounds), home to a statue commemorating the burning of Giordano Bruno. The indie bookstore there (Fahrenheit 451) should be able to direct you to an internet cafe, assuming they're still in business. And the Fornaio on the corner of the Via Baullari and the Via Cappellari (fountain end of the piazza) is known to be the best bakery in the city. Ask for the pizza bianca (foccacia with olive oil and salt).

Most romantic fountain... Hm.. The Trevi is so hyped. For indiecowboy's wish, I'd suggest the Fontana delle Tartarughe (3 young men helping turtles up into the fountain), or possibly one of the minor fountains in the Piazza Navona (one of my roommates had a huge thing about the butt of one of the figures).

And remember, if you go to see the Sistine Chapel, go very early (wait in line before opening), go straight there, and take your headphones and something to listen to. Another Vatican hint: The national Italian mail system doesn't work so well, but the Vatican's is very reliable. You can get stamps at the post office off St. Peter's square.

And that's just Roma! Have a wonderful trip! (I wish I could go!)

Hello there Carol, it's Zach!

If you think of it, and have some left over, my father collects foreign coins from all over (normal ones or old ones, it does'nt matter). So if you have some spare change left from some of the countries you are in (esp in Italy), then we would be willing to take some of it off your hands.

Have a safe trip!

Zach

It will be mostly Euros at this stage. Britain isn't there yet, so I might have some spare change from there.

*hugs*

Hey Zach... I've got a bit of bad news in that everyone is using the Euro but England. I've saved some spare coins from England and I'll do the same for the Euro, but I'm afraid the old lira and franc is a bit obsolete. Perhaps I could interest him in some Australian currency from my last trip, though... *smiles*

I miss you! *big hug* (You didn't kill off any of my characters in my absense, did you? I'll be mightily put out if Thorne bites it. I hear she has a big sister who is even more eccentric than she is... *looks sternly in your direction*)

Have a good trip! If I can get my Paypal account working, I'd love to get some kitchen goodies (spices, etc) and send you the money for them. Failing that, have a good trip and bring us back stories, we'll miss you!

I am so glad you're going to get to have this exciting adventure. I will miss you while you're gone, but I look forward to living vicariously through you by reading your stories and talking to you when you get back. Have fun!

Bon Voyage!

Milady! Have a safe and wonderful time! If you're going to Germany, visit my hometown of Fussen, in southern Germany, right near the Austrian border. It's so exquisitely beautiful! And castles galore!
Thats a lot of exclamation points!
Godspeed and love
E

Re: Bon Voyage!

Hey! Thanks! *hug* We are only in Germany in the airport for a transfer flight. Maybe the next European adventure. Were you born in Germany? I didn't know that.
