What a great weekend. G, the dogs and I went to visit our friend Jeannie in the country. She lives an hour west of Roseburg in this great location in a hilly valley. Absolute beauty and peace. We relaxed, wrapped in the serenity and good energy that Jeannie emanates and created fun garden sculptures from what the forest provides *giggle—inside joke, I’ll explain later*
The dogs love it there. They can roam freely and investigate whatever they want. Morgana even found a dead mouse and suddenly felt the “princess” drift away from her as the “wolf” took over. G found her happily munching on the carcass. Needless to say, there were no kisses for the rest of the day. Ewwwww. Aldina was tickled pink to see Jeannie’s new little kitten. At last! A cat smaller than her! Yippee! She was awful, chasing that poor little kittie. I’m thinking that the next time we visit, that cat is going to out-size Aldina and have a very long memory. *sighs and shakes head* Kids. *grimace*
Jeannie had just planted a dozen tomato plants and we went to the side of the road and cut some fresh myrtle shoots from a tree that was too close to the power lines and had been cut down. We brought them back to the house and she pulled out a skein of orange plastic twine that she had found lying in the forest behind her house. We used the branches and twine to make tomato cages using only materials that the forest provided. We laughed away most of the afternoon as we tried different configurations and tying methods to produce our cages. We put them in the garden and laughed at the chaotic mess of brambles it ended up looking like. She said, “You never know when you are creating a memory.” I’m pretty confident we created one there. *smiles*
Today has been interesting. I went off to my last Italian class this morning, talked to Mom on the phone until G opened the cupboard under the kitchen sink to grab some rice and discovered the cabinet was flooded. Yeah! Plumbing issues! Wheeee! So I took everything out, pulled out the broken part (a plastic connector had just worn through) and cleaned up the area. No major damage was done. It must have broken a couple of days ago at least because there was a bit of mold. Well, I just returned from the hardware store with the replacement part. I’m going to pull on my toolbelt and have at it in a moment. I have a hairdryer under there to help the drying process along. I should have it fixed before the boys come over for gaming.
