It’s a beautiful sunny day! I have accomplished much laundering, battled the sugar ants (which were no where near any food at all… the little freaks) and finished other various chores about the house. I did most of these tasks in my nightshirt as it made no sense to dress before I showered. I mean, what are the odds anyone would call upon me? Well, apparently, pretty darn good. I entertained both [livejournal.com profile] indiecowboy and Jamie dressed in my bedwear finest. Ah well, my friends must love me for me despite me. *giggle* At any rate, I’m ready to emerge into the world.

Before I leave, I want to share this because it made me laugh heartily. The facts are outrageous but she worded it so well it has humour. It’s a quote from a book entitled The Road From the Past: Traveling Through History in France by Ina Caro. She is speaking of the early Renaissance gardens at Villandry and how they are trying to recreate even the plants there when it was first created.
“More serious, however, are the charges gardening fanatics have made against individual flowers and vegetables. For example, when the potato was found in the vegetable garden at Villandry, gardening fanatics charged that it did not arrive in France until the eighteenth century and therefore found it guilty of being anachronistic. (My sympathies, however, are with the poor potato, which I feel has been much maligned throughout the ages, not only in France but in Russia as well. In tsarist Russia, the potato, the main staple of the peasant, was formally excommunicated by the Greek Orthodox Church for its sexual deviances – the potato reproduces without need of a partner. Its planting was forbidden, and the peasants were allowed to starve until Tsarina Catherine forgave its sins.)”
