Sorry for the delay in posting this. I had to be ABSOLUTELY sure I could have that weekend off. I tried for a month+ to have today, the 13th off, for a friend's wedding and failed miserably but didn't know until two weeks before the wedding. G told me that I received the Bridal Raspberry because I had to work instead of celebrate their union. I suck. *smiles and shrugs helplessly* Oh well, on with life.
The Date: Okay, so the proposed Celebration Feast is definitely Friday, January 2, 2004.
This is going to be a wonderful gathering of extraordinary folke.
The Deal: Bring a dish to share. Make sure it is something that you like and want to eat. There are a lot of food allergies and special diets in our crowd, so make sure you have something you know you can eat. I'll try to coordinate dishes with people so that we have plenty for all diets. See my list below of restrictions in our group.
The Participants: I'll be home cooking most of the day, but I'm not sure what time is good for everyone else. I'd also like to know how many would like to attend. The number of comers dictates whether this is a sit-down feast or a wandering buffet. I'm opening this feast to everyone. If you can come, please do. Parking shouldn't be a problem as the Catholic school a few houses down should be on vacation so we can spill over to their parking lot.
I have a limited supply of sleeping spaces for any out-of-towners. I can house 3-4 people here on my two futons. I'll need advance notice of anyone who is staying at Avalonne and how long so I can prepare.
The Menu: Here is a list of known food restrictions and dietary issues of my clan -
- gluten (this means no soy sauce. Braggs is fine)
- peanuts
- sugar diabetes (limit sugar use, use Splenda if possible)
- Atkin's diet (extra meat and cream)
- lactose (dairy)
- cinnamon
- vegetarian (no animal products resulting from their death. Honey, eggs and dairy are fine in moderation, soy milk is better)
I will provide a meal or two of my own that should be lactose free, mild, vegetarian and peanut free. I will also make sure the tea shall flow. I will have a copious supply of caf and decaf. I have caffeinated coffee as well. I'll be sure to have some soy milk and half and half. I have honey, raw suagar and Splenda.
I will be organizing that those who do not wish to cook bring ancillary supplies like beverages.
The Summary: Please let give me input as soon as you can so I may better prepare for this wonderous occasion. I'm looking forward to everyone being here. Obviously, I'll send locational directions to any who have not previously been to Avalonne.
Love and hugs to you all.

I'll be grilling lot's of chicken, both salted and ones with soy marinade (which contains wheat) for the meat eaters.

We'll probably be limited to things that travel well.

When do you think you will be arriving and departing? I'm not expecting you to make anything that wouldn't travel well, but do bring things that might add an exciting flair even if it's only some kind of chutney with wild flavour. You know what I mean. Bring a Lethran special something. We can always finish cooking or reheat it here.
This is so exciting!

WHen?

Re: WHen?
Oh, and I wanted to ask about the LOTR tix. I made an assumption that it was the Cinemark theatre in the mall, but I guess it could very well be the one near Valley River. Which theater? And what time will you be there? Should we go together? The thought is we should be there 1-2 hours early so we can get the seats we want. I need a seat near the back or I can't watch the movie. What say you?

Second, I called george at 10 pm tonight but apparently you all were sleeping (which does seem somewhat unusual, at least for G) We are going to be there at 8 15, you can be there earlier if you like...but that is our plan. Tckets are there. It is at Gateway. I would like to go togehter but seems silly cuz it is halfway between our houses. YOu know tat is coming too right ?? ;) TOday i watch a 7 hour marathon on the big screen in the CS department of the 2 movies un-cut. the Two Towers extra footage ROCKED my world...
See ya bright and early
Smooches....

I'm not 100% sure I can, but it looks good. I should have the day off. One thing - I'd need someplace to crash. Is anyone able to put people up?
I have in mind a nice simple carrot and ginger dish, tho' I don't know how it would travel.
ok, two things - I'd need a ride from and to the train station from someone, if that's possible? I can beg openly on my lj if need be, since this is an older post.
Sounds like a good getting together...

I'd love it if you came. I feel I haven't had the opportunity to really sit and chat. I have two double size futon mattresses. One is my couch which can be pulled out, the other is on the floor. I'm not sure how many people are coming to stay, two definitely. I have no spare rooms, all my guests will have to be together in the living room and thus far Lethran and her male friend from Bellingham that you met at Orycon will be definitely there. She may be bringing another man, too. I'm okay with as many people as can squeeze to be here, but I don't know how you feel about sharing sleeping space with people you don't know well.
As for a ride, I'm a bicycle commuter and G's car will be in the shop until some time this weekend. We may be able to drop you off on your way back, but I'm not comfortable stuffing you in my bike basket. *grin* I'd say you should bring this to your LJ and see what happens.
I hope you can make it. If you do, how long will you be staying and what kind of dish shall I put you down for? Also, do you have any eating restrictions? I will have limited access to grocery stores so I need to make sure I have things at home you can eat.

Sorry about the car. Perfect timing! Could you give me a rough idea of where you are, and possibly email me your address, so I can figure out a way there for the gathering at least?
I have not much in the way of food nonos. Coffee beans make me nauseous, but othewise it's mostly dislikes: eggs, melon, shellfish. I think that's it.
I have to do a little research for what I would bring, but I'll let you know as soon as I do. I'm asuming at least vegetarian, and I'll look at what else you said was a nono.
So, it looks like I'm coming. I'll let you know for sure asap.

You know, 97% of the time, I don't even miss a car. 92% of that time I actually would be inconvenienced by having to deal with a car. Wouldn't you know... *smirk*
Welcom to my little corner of chaos. *grin*

I completely agree. Ok, now that I leve further away from things, I sometimes wish for the convenience of a car. But yeah, generally they're more trouble than they're worth, on a personal and macro scale. Geez, if I had a car, I wouldn't be able to afford this house.
