[livejournal.com profile] naudiz shared this rather disturbing article about someone being decapitated in an elevator…by the elevator itself. The statistics at the bottom of the article mentioned the large number of people killed or injured in elevator and escalator accidents per year. At last, I am justified in my dislike of these devices!

I'm not big for elevators. If I have the time, I have been known to climb 36 floors of stairs to get to a friend's apartment. This was back east, of course.

Escalators always scared me as a child. I remember imagining them sucking me under the metal slat at the top if I didn't jump off in time. It always reminded me of being sucked into the jowls of a horrible serpent, unsuspecting shoppers who weren't paying attention and leapt off at the appropriate time would be sucked under and never heard from again. I still handle escalators with caution and can be seen leaping off rather than stepping elegantly at the top.

Welcome to the 4th level of my personal hell. Please keep your arms and legs within your cars as our tour proceeds. We are not held responsible for lost limbs, though you may find them in the lost and found section of Limbo if you make it out again. Thank you. Signed, the management.
