I weep for Mother Earth and her children. I am embarrassed at the actions of some of my fellow humans and I cringe when I cannot be as kind to my environment as I would like to be.

This is in response to an entry made by one of my LJ friends, [livejournal.com profile] winnett. She posted the following:

“I am participating in a butterfly survey held all over the greater Portland area. The place I am surveying is called Cooper Mountain out by Beaverton. It is one of the last places over there that isn't plastered with houses. There is a large open field where there are Western Blue Bird boxes, the only place I have seen the blue bird. The field was full of grasses, no trees, because the birds like open fields. There are many signs saying "Restoration in Progress, No Motorized Vehicles" to stop people from riding motorcycles and other things in there.

”Well METRO decided it needed to not only make money, but also promote more urban sprawl. As I showed up to Cooper Mountain last Friday, the whole field was now designated a temporary parking lot for a "Street of Dreams" home show. No more field, no more birds...

”Funny to see those "No Motorized Vehicle" signs posted for a parking lot. Really funny.”

Wow, I feel special that you spread the post. Though I guess I should say that after I called METRO and asked about it, that theoretically NW Natural Gas is going to pay to restore what they destroyed (though it was already under previous restoration). I still don't think that is a good thing. Everyone sells out.

I guess we all sell out to some extent. I can only hope that I sell out less often and with less permanent damage each time. You know, lessons learned, sins of the fathers, etc...

At least there are those of us making conscious choices to make better decisions.
