Apparently, the exiting administration has passed something that allows medical workers to refuse care to people that conflicts with their personal feelings. This includes the right for pharmacies to refuse to fill birth control prescriptions and to gather information about it. If you'd like to send an email to the Obama administration to begin revoking this bill, please follow www.ppaction.org/campaign/hhsdec08_ppan to a pre-written Planned Parenthood email letter.

Thank you.

There's a bill already drafted for the new congress to do away with it, and the Obama Administration started looking at way to undo the new rule the day it was signed. It doesn't hurt to write, but I just wanted to say there is a lot being done already.

It doesn't take effect for 30 days, and the order was signed into law on the 20th.

Birth control is only one area affected. Think of how difficult this makes it for a transgender going through hormone therapy. Any medication or procedure could be withheld.

Thanks for the update. I always think it's a good idea to voice my opinion. I happen to know there's a lot of people out there who feel the same. I know birth control is merely touching the tip of this iceberg, yet I didn't want to really re-write the articles that are already out there. I've been listening to news about it for days and I just made it back to the computer today and decided to do something about it rather than just seethe.

And yet again I'm thankful I live in Australia.
I watch "The View" a fair bit and I saw them having a go at Australia for being backward about something. I fell off my chair laughing.

In my humble opinion, having lived for a bit in both countries, none of us have it quite perfect. There are definitely things I love about both, yet we are ultimately human and we therefore mess up a good thing given half an opportunity. While I'm grateful for the health care system of Australia, I witnessed some taking gross advantage of the generous system. It made me sick knowing how much it's needed in America.

I don't watch American tv, so I can't speak to what they were saying about Australia. I just know that there are places in both countries that are very dear to my heart. I revel in the differences of each.

Wherever I am, I choose to surround myself with quality people, do what I can wherever I can and hope for the best.

Well having seen a story on a woman who had to sell her house to afford treatment for breast cancer, not long after I had Caitlin in a public hospital and after all the tests and treatments I had and all it cost us was for blood test and amnio ( 80% of which we got back from Medicare) I know where I'd rather live.

There are places I'd like to see in America, but as for living there, no thanks. I like my part of the world.

We may have a few things I'm not particularly proud of, but I do honestly believe that I live in the BEST country in the world.

I've known people in that position. I weep to think of them. You are very fortunate to be Australian, yes. There are so many wonderful things about Australia. Some day, I'd like to travel more of it to see if anything really feels like home. I can live most anywhere for a time, yet I find I can't really thrive unless I'm surrounded by snowcapped mountains, cold rivers and tall pines. Weird, yes, yet true. *smiles*
