Firstly, I would like to thank everyone with every fiber of my being for the outpouring of support and good energy for Morgana. It is appreciated beyond my ability to put words to it.

Secondly, the progress report. It was a long, hard surgery, but she came through with no problems. She had a total hysterectomy and a double mastectomy. The lump was between two breasts and the doctor thought it best to take them both, just to be safe. No word on the biopsy, yet.

Just a note, if anyone is looking for a super kind and extremely good vet, I highly recommend Joanne Voss in Westmoreland Animal Hospital in Eugene. She has done wonders for Gana.

We picked her up at 5pm. She is still in pain and uncomfortable, but it is beneath her to complain. She is so amazing. When I took her outside last night, she even made a lap around the yard, she was hobbling with the pain of it, but she did it anyway. When I brought her to bed, she took a while to find a tolerable position to lay in. It just happens that that position was strategically placed so I had only about 3 feet of bed to sleep in. I didn’t have the heart to disturb her even though that meant that I didn’t have a place to sleep, so I grabbed a blanket and my pillow and fell asleep on the rug beside the bed.

It was a fitful night and Morgana had need of care a few times, so it is fortunate for us that I am so easily woken. This morning, I noticed that she was licking her wound (a terribly long incision for such a little girl) so I put one of those Elizabethan collars on her neck to prevent her worrying the area. This upset her quite a bit. She was not only indignant about the appearance of it, but it caused her to have trouble balancing herself. She can’t fit through the doggie door with it, and she keeps underestimating corners and gets the collar caught. We decided that one of us will watch her the whole time and, while she is still relatively inactive, keep the collar off.

All in all, it has been eventful. George is still house-bound with asthma. He is best off in the bedroom which is the room I’ve kept the air filter in and the windows closed. The rest of the house has people coming in and out and lots of pollens are traipsed through, so he doesn’t leave the bedroom much. I have Morgana lying in bed with him and I am now taking care of them both, despite my leprosy-like poison oak or sumac or whatever on my left leg and the sprained right wrist. We are certainly a decrepit bunch. Actually, my wrist is much better and the leprosy seems to be stable. At least it isn’t still spreading. There is never a dull moment here at Chez Avalonne.

Okay, back to work for me. Must check on my patients. Thank you all, again, for your love and support. I’ll keep you posted as to the biopsy and Gana’s progress.

Go Gana!

Last time I got poison oak, I had to take steriods, which made me really sick. Hope you all are better soon.
