It took a couple days for my birds to return after filling the feeder. I refilled again this morning while watering and changing the birdbath water. I have dozens of critters at my backyard buffet. Both the cats were prowling the yard while my puppies slept. All three squirrels were here. Awesome.

Now that the girls are up, Gana is scouting in the yard while Dina sits beside me watching the backyard action like it's the most fascinating movie ever. Basically, all my labour in the yard, all the plants and seed and earth I've moved, all culminates as the most satisfying entertainment ever. Especially for Dina and myself. We sit on the deck for hours just watching the show. Right now, we're both captivated by two squirrels chasing each other around Grandmother Tree.

A pot of tea, my lap desk and my girl Dina by my side... awesome!

EDIT: It looked like so much fun, Dina launched off the deck and joined the chase around the yard. The three of them were running after each other right until the squirrels took it back into the trees and Dina called no fairsies and went inside for a drink. Bwahaha!

All THREEE Squirrels?! Good grief. Want some of ours? The 30 or so living around our back yard have chased all the birds away from the feeders, and from the garden, whcih means the bugs are eating my vegetables alive. No brocolli this season, either. :(

Durn Squirrels. Oh. Did I mention that they hate my husband?

Hee hee... not to laugh at your plight, yet I have an image of slapstick chasing, people wheeling around on one leg chasing squirrels in Chaplinesque fashion... very amusing to my brain.

I'm sorry about your rampant squirrel population. I'm very lucky here that everything is in balance. Broccoli, after all, is love. *smiles* Maybe I could just say that if you have a successful garden, I would quite likely be jealous of your sun. I have shade. Lots of shade. I can't grow a proper garden. I've tried for 9 years in many different ways.

I had some issues with the squirrels at first, too. I've managed to place the feeder just far enough that only one squirrel can actually jump up there now so the food lasts longer. It's amazing that the squirrels and little birds hang together on the ground right below the feeder, too. They are literally right next to each other. Everyone gets along. The scrub jays buzz the feeder and make everyone scatter, but sometimes I see them poking around on the ground next to the squirrels and the sparrows. My puppies love them all and are amused by the show. The only critters universally not liked by anyone are the two cats. The dogs chase them away to protect the birds and squirrels, the cats hunt the little critters when the dogs are asleep, and I am eminently amused by the whole drama. It's awesome!

I shall try to get some of them written up and posted. They are MUCH funnier with the voices he uses, however. :P
