G and I slept in this morning, wrestled with puppies -- who are feeling much better now -- then gussied up and went out for brunch at one of my favourite breakfast places, Studio One Café. Honestly, of all the places in the world I've tried eggs benedict, this is the best. Though they have a menu full of yumminess, I tend to always order the thing I can't seem to find better elsewhere.
Afterward, we went to visit our friends Kathy and Kennan. It was our first time to their place and it was a remarkable experience. Kennan's thumbs are so green I think he runs on sunlight and chlorophyll. What an amazing yard! I could have stayed all afternoon to pick his brain. He gave me some shade tolerant crocosmia bulbs to plant. I shall see that they do well. I also met the lovely young ladies that supply my fresh eggs. Kathy has two pens of chickens and they are delightful. There is one young lady with a deformed foot that hobbles a bit. Kathy described her as "brown" and I couldn't figure out which chick she meant. This amazing girl looks like mahogany obsidian with some white spots and a huge splattering of labradorescence. I balked at calling her "brown" and pronounced her "dazzling." Kathy then dubbed her Miss Dazzle.
After leaving their magnificent yard and my horticultural lesson, we drove to Fred Meyer to find a new fleece jacket for G. While there, I bought a new shepherd's hook for my hummingbird feeder. I've decided it should reside in the planted part near the bird bath. I've been collecting reddish flowering plants to attract more hummingbirds... well, any hummingbirds would do. I imagine if I can attract even one, they'll spread the word.
As I sit here on the deck surrounded by wind chimes and rustling leaves, I currently have around a dozen little sparrow finches, sparrows and other such little ones flitting around the feeder and 3-4 squirrels at the base. I had a scrub jay taking a bath in my bird bath a bit ago. I love my little menagerie.
