Today, we are throwing our schedule to the wind so G and meet with someone tomorrow morning. We'll be a day late returning the car and we are paying for a hotel room in both NYC and here, yet business is business.

Since G will be involved in tech meetings all day and I am not needed, I took the car and decided to drive into Salem for food and fun. I have spent my morning wandering the streets, talking to the locals and sampling a multitude of caffeinated beverages. I bought [livejournal.com profile] muincat some nice little gifts for house and puppy sitting while we are here then spent the early afternoon in the Peabody Essex Museum. It was started in 1799 and is the oldest museum in the U.S. The best bits were the tour of the Chinese house brought brick by brick and dowel by dowel over from Huizhou, China and rebuilt on museum property (I spent copious time writing notes and drawing pictures in there) and the photograph exhibit of Maori tattoo art from New Zealand.

I've stopped for a late lunch at Gulu-Gulu Café upon the advice of a local roving wizard. Really. A young man in brown wizard robes and a staff carrying pamphlets for visitors. While chatting on the common, a group of small children passing by on their way to some day-care activity all screamed over to him, "Helllooooo Weeezaard!" He returned the greeting then asked if they were behaving. They all chimed yes in unison. He confided to me that it didn't matter what his mood was that day, those kids saw him wherever he was and always made him smile. Awesome.

On Gray Days
It has been a lovely gray day. Gray days in New England mean rain. Every time I walked outside, it was gray and pleasant. When I was under cover and inside buildings or in the car, it rained hard. By the time I was ready to be outside again, the rain had stopped. Pretty amazing. Plus, it has been fun stomping through cobblestone street puddles.
