Yesterday, as part of my home improvement movement, I bought a new toilet seat for the main bath. I hadn't replaced it since before Flex moved in and I thought it was time to have a new one. I bought a spiffy seat that closes gently rather than banging onto the porcelain. Very exciting, yes? Well, it's probably a pretty sad commentary on my life, yet I find it exciting.
So, last night, before my shower, I decided to roll up my sleeves (on my tank top, no less) and change the seat. It's as simple as unscrewing the nuts on the bolts under the porcelain, right? WRONG! It turned into a two day tactical and, eventually, surgical procedure. I ended up using wrenches, pliers, WD-40, a torch and, the ultimately effective solution, a jeweler's saw with 10 #8 blades. So, there I was, on my knees before the porcelain god, praying... and sawing. Through the incredibly rusted bolt that held the crappy old seat onto my toilet. For like 10 minutes each side.
I feel victorious. I'm sure there was a better way to do it. After all, I only tried about 6. Still, I did it. It wasn't pretty, but it's done. I removed the old one, cleaned, scrubbed then put on the new seat. The installation was literally about 2 minutes. The removal was two days. Gah.

How are you? I'm still settling in from Flex's move and just being away. When shall we make a date? I want to hear all about your world.
