I noticed that my latest efforts to keep the squirrels off the bird feeder are in vain. They have, yet again, figured out how to mount my increasingly perilous rigging and spend hours eating the seed. They really do just camp there and scare away the birds. It's not like I don't give them easier targets for food. I just want the bird feeder to be mostly for the birds. I love the squirrels and provide for them, too, yet they are greedy and want it all. Why can't we just share? *sigh*

Clearly, my efforts have merely created Olympic athletes of these squirrels.

I saw one of these in action and they work great! (I am not recommending this specific one, just citing an example of the one I saw) It has weight sensitive perches, so if anything heavier than a little bird lands on it, the openings slide shut and keep the food locked up.

I was just going to suggest that. I think there's one brand called 'squirrel buster' or something like that which my cousin uses and really likes. Those seem to be the only thing she's found that actually works.

Has she had it for long? I can't help but think the seed will eventually lodge itself in the slider area and jam it.

I think she's had it four or five years. And the seed can't get at the channels controlling the sliding.

Nice. I wasn't sure from the design. It's hard to tell. And I hate the thought of buying something that won't work after a year. Thanks.

I've seen these, too, yet I'm concerned that the seed will eventually become stuck in the slider part and jam the mechanism. I've been hesitant to buy one because of that.

You cannot stop the squirrels! Resistance is useless! Join us! BWAHAHAHAHA!!!

They are adorable little creatures. They play with Aldina sometimes. It's very cute. I have a feeder for them, I just want to leave one for only the birds as the squirrels run out of their food faster than I can replace it sometimes.

Will I be seeing you this weekend? I'd greatly like to give you a hug.
