I am on the mend. I feel oodles better. I'm down to a lingering hack in the chest, stuffed head with corresponding light headache and general fatigue. I shall be a bit weak setting off for my trip, yet I'm sure I'll rapidly improve on the road. I have pyramids to climb, after all. *smiles*
It occurred to me that I probably didn't ever mention this trip, officially. G and I were offered free tickets to Mexico City as the result of an investment we made. It's a business trip which we are extending a week to actually see the sites. The first few days are official, the rest are for us.
Neither of us has been to Mexico City, so it'll be an adventure. Before being struck low by The Plague, I had been feverishly consuming Spanish lesson podcasts and every book on the area and ancient Aztecs I could manage. Feverishly consuming until I actually had a fever. Heh. That's funny like a Greek tragedy, isn't it? Then, I became as useless as a lump. On a bed. A hot, fevered lump. On a bed. Listening to Spanish podcasts. On a bed.
Where was I?
Oh yes, bored. I was bored, but too fevered to know it. Good thing, eh? Now, I have a smidge more energy, but I hesitate to do too much, so I'm bored and I know it. I have tonnes to do, but I'm trying to restrain myself to the bare essentials. Learning. Planning. Laundry. Packing. Playing with puppies. Nothing too strenuous. Nothing to intense. This is MiLady trying to be a good girl. It doesn't come easily, you understand. Most of my dear friends will recognize by now (after all that extensive training) that, in my natural state, I am pure eeevil. So good is not the simplest thing to manage, for me. *wink*
All the things I had planned to do, planned to clean, planned to finish planning... remain undone. It is what it is.
Okay, I'm going to finish sorting through clothes and begin to pack. Then, I rest.

I am quite envious, you know. One of my major interests in high school and college (apart from boys, of course) was the Mayan culture.
Take care, try to behave and DO NOT drink the local water.

The area of Mexico City is the heart of the Aztecs. It was the site of their capitol which is a bit further north and west of major Maya territory. The Mayans were also past their peak when the Aztecs were creating their empire.
My lifelong interests has always been in ancient cultures. I focused mainly on the Fertile Crescent, Egypt and European stuff as a young adult. I've been branching out into other parts of the world more recently. I would love to hear all you have to say about Mayans. I suspect we could fill an afternoon with a warm beverage, fiber arts and ancient civilizations.
I've been to Central America before, not touched a drop of water and still managed to contract Montezuma Revenge. He's rather testy, poor fella.

I'd love to dig out my old papers (ye gods, if I can even find them!) and share them with you. I delved mostly into the Arts and Religion; comparing and contrasting them. I'm SO far behind in research and assume that so much work has been done in the last 20 years that I'm way out of date. I used to dream of flying over the Yucatan peninsula, seeing some hill and going, "There, we need to excavete right there" and finding miraculous things!
*lol* Ah, the dreams of youth and how far from that my life has taken me. I've often said that I really do hope there is reincarnation so that I can get to do all the different things I wanna do!
