Guess who is sitting in Supreme Bean Café looking all cool with her MacBook and a soy latte?

I immediately IMed [livejournal.com profile] lurkitty and asked that very question of her.

Lurkitty: MiLady Coolio?

Me: Nope. MacLady Coolio!

It's funny, I walked in, ordered my latte and set up housekeeping with G at a little table. I was the only one with her laptop out. Then in strolled another 3 Macs while I was exchanging words with the lovely Lurkitty. We are legion! Though, I'm a little extra cool, though, as mine is the only Black Mac. *beams*

Welcome to MacVille!

What's even cuter is the sight of G with his 19" big-screen HP laptop facing him on the table and my little 13" MacBook back to back. My little Maxine looks teeny in comparison. Rather like the difference between his big planetoid head and my teeny-brained head in our pictures together. *giggles*

And I just spent a chunk of time researching how to fulfill my Grammar Geekitudinousness! I now have the capability to type accented letters! Woo hoo! It's different than the PC.

I am geek! Hear me roar!

Milady is taking to the Mac like a duck to water!

Maxine will run circles around G's HP, then sit up and await the next instruction. Fantastic!

I really do love having a computer that is really mine. I also really like that my teacher for this system is a girl. Usually, it's boys that teach me the system, then continue to fix the system every time something goes wrong... I could tell you horror stories of sharing a computer with Mark. Argh! He was such a geek that he had to have the latest everything. He'd install stuff while I was at work, they would conflict, then he'd have to leave for work. When I'd return home with homework and paying jobs for my graphic art biz, the computer wouldn't work. He'd get home at 10:30pm and I'd be livid because I had to get up at 6am and I had 2-3 hours of work to do before the morning. He'd have to spend hours making the computer work, then I'd be up all night doing what I could have done hours earlier and made it to bed on time. Grrr... I know Maxine will never treat me like that.

I have also decided that I want to give myself a present. I want to buy my own USB. I'm going to put it in my library on my pc. I'm going to take my own road trip to Fryes and buy it for myself, install it and G will wonder what that extra box is when he notices it in 2 years. *wink*

You want in on the conspiracy? *nudge nudge*

I am at your beck and call, Milady! 'twill be our sworn secret! Hee! *loves putting one over on guys who think they are supergeeks but don't recognize the innate superiority of femgeeks* Oh! and we can go to Uwajimaya!

I like teaching by having people do it themselves. I learn by discovery myself. I think that is a primarily feminine way of learning. I learn nothing by having it done for me. T used to do the same thing that Mark did only with the LINUX box, them he'd stand back and say something like, "There, wasn't that simple?" and I'd go, "Wait, what did you do?" and he'd rattle off a sequence like "Go to the command prompt and type scr, then hit ctrl A, then crtl P, then Alt scr Q, then prn fn J ext" "It all makes perfect sense. Why don't you get it?"

By then, my eyes would be glazed over and I'd be drooling.

Drool happens. I consider it a mantra, of sorts.

Honestly, G has never been like that. He's always supported me and my computing needs. He helped me buy my first brand new computer. Previously, I'd always shared or had hand-me-downs... the 2-3 year old computer became mine while the boy got the spankin' new one. *rolls eyes* I have occasionally gotten used computers from G, but that's usually because he has upgraded, mine dies and it's faster and easier to just update his old one for me. It's all good.

And he was the one who laid the foundation that a Mac might be the right thing for me. He pushed me to buy it. AND he's encouraging me to look into docking stations to use my laptop as my desktop and maybe eliminate a separate computer need. I'm not sure how I feel about that, but it bears research. I really prefer my desktop. I love having a big screen for many open windows, I love that I can prop the screen to the perfect height and lower my ergonomic keyboard to the perfect height... I don't know if I'd feel quite as at home. The laptop is my perfect size for travel, but I definitely want to use my desktop when I need to actually WORK. It's just more comfy and convenient.

From: [identity profile] lurkitty.livejournal.com

You can do that with a docking station, but a desktop is really nice *giggles* (I did consider having a docking station instead of getting a desktop, but saw the G5 and went for it. The Docking station would be a big screen with a big keyboard, essentially. You'd just plug your laptop into it.

It seems G is more Mac friendly than he lets on. He likes to bluster a lot. He's really a marshmallow pie - crunchy on the outside - soft and gooey on the inside. He doesn't fool me one minute! But don't tell him that! It's fun to watch him strut. Flex is the one that drinks the Windoze koolaid. If Bill Gates jumped off a cliff, Flex would follow...

*sniff* I miss having a Mac but glad to have a laptop that can open more than one application at a time. My poor old iBook was 7 years old!

Ah well...someday soon, I hope!

From: [identity profile] miladycarol.livejournal.com

Wow, 7 years is old for a computer. At 2, they are considered doddering. Since this is my first, I'm very excited.

Yeah, don't blame you...they're wonderful. This is the first time in years I've not been on a Mac but since it's free, I ain't quibbling.

Once my business gets online and starts producing actual income, that's one of my goal.!
