I started the day by watering the garden and filling the bird feeder. I've changed things a bit by adding a cone of squirrel bane +4 to the shepherd's hook upon which the feeder hangs. Mind you, I've nothing against squirrels, I actually really love and enjoy them. I have a blast watching their Circque du Soleil via the Matrix moves as they dangle and flip and twist themselves into all manner of contortions to access the feeder for hours on end. That's just the thing, they hog the feeder and don't let the birds in to feed. This is an experiment to see if the cone keeps the squirrels off this feeder. If it does, then I'll set up a second feeder just for the squirrels on my second hook.

The maples on Mt. Pisgah are turning yellow. The blackberries are on their last days. Autumn is here.

In other Pisgah news, today's body count included a doe, lizards, several types of birds, squirrels, bees and, our star performers of the day, a troupe of wild turkeys who noticed me stomping my way toward them on the trail, gathered their teenaged younglings and high-tailed it up the slope into the bush.

After completing a goodly amount of work, I am retiring to the deck to enjoy a bit of the afternoon and spy on the bird feeder.

not trying to be squirrly here but i must admit i think the squirrels will out smart ya .i have seen many shows on the ( trying to stop or hender the little guys ) and well beside setting up a gun that shots them as the touch a spot not much has stoped them guys not saying the need to shot .
but they are smart .oh btw what is the cone made of in less some metal type item they will just chew it up .like hamesters the do that to keep the teeth sharp and such.like i say not trying to steal your nuts so to speak but ya they are smart...

Hee hee. Yeah, I don't want to hurt them. I really enjoy their antics. Part of the experiment is $8 worth of metal cone investment in future entertainment. I can't wait to watch them try to circumvent it. I just want to make sure the birds have an equal chance at the seed. As it stands, the squirrels chase them away and chew through the food in a couple of days. It's expensive to keep the squirrels fed.

Everyone should, in my opinion. It's one of my special places. It heals me.

That would be lovely. Much of the time I'm alone or it's just G and myself. Sometimes I convince [livejournal.com profile] dreadygoddess along when her schedule permits.

Right now, I'm not on a regular time schedule. I'm just winging it at different times of the day and days of the week. Let me know what your schedule is and I'll see if I can mold mine around yours.

I'm working from home most days and when I do go into the office, it's in the evenings. Thus we're available most mornings and some afternoons.
