After all these years, we're finally here.

We were hungry, so the first thing we did after driving off the ferry from Port Angeles was find food. We decided to try one of the many Irish pubs. Pub grub -- not exactly our usual fare. We chose Garrick's Head Pub for burger, fish and chips, complete with a beer. Perhaps my tastes have matured, or degenerated, because, though it wasn't what I'd consider yummy, it didn't taste like urine water, either.

We spent the remainder of the afternoon and evening wandering and exploring. We danced for over an hour to some amazing street performers from Zimbabwe. Who am I kidding? It wasn't a street performance, it was a full-fledged concert on the sidewalk. This brilliant septuagenarian trotted around dancing in front of the band and asked any lady who was tapping her toes to dance. This kind-looking man was dancing with all the girls. It was so cool to see the young 18 year olds shaking it with this older man. *grins* He had oodles of women dancing -- what a maneuver! If I ever start a street band, I'm hiring him! We liked the music so much we bought the cd.

By the way, when I went to bed at 10:15 pm last night, I was still full. We ate pub grub at 2pm and 8 hours later, I wasn't hungry. Eight hours of walking and dancing and I still felt like I had just eaten minutes before. Amazing.

better than the famous gardens, I swear it...

Ooh... if you still have time, two places I really liked were the native houses by the natural history musum (which is pretty cool itself). When I visited they had a traditional dance performance in one of them - really, really cool.

Also, since you like cool art, find the Emily Carr stuff. Amazing artist, I'd never heard of her before I went, but really, really cool. She was expressionist period, did a lot of work that involved native settlements and people and especiallu forest landscapes, before it was completely taken over by white settlement. Really really awesome, one of my favorite artists ever. The Georgia O'Keefe of the PNW.

They have some of her stuff in Victoria at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria:

general about the art gallery: http://aggv.bc.ca/

(and here house is there, son't know how special that is)

And if you go to Vancouver BC, I think that's where the motherlode is at the Vancouver Art Gallery:

Sadly, I left Victoria yesterday morning. We are on our way to the woods and wilderness of Squamish this morning via the ferry. We really traveled this way on a lark to see the sights. I'll post more of my travel log later. Using G's computer is clunky for me. But thanks for the suggestions. I'll see if we have time in Vancouver on our way back. We already have two business meetings scheduled there for the 1.5 days we'll be in town. I'm not sure how much personal time we'll scrape together.
