Friday, I went to the Oregon Country Faire. I attended on a work pass for the Moon Lodge to help
dreadygoddess. I intended to be there on the early workers’ bus. I tried to look up the time for that bus and the website didn’t have any info. It was too late to call the LTD station, so I went with someone’s remembered time of 7:30am.
The bus left at 7:15.
So, I arrived with everyone else on the first bus at 10:30. I decided to take responsibility for my lack of preparedness and just wait in line. In doing so, I met this wonderful woman who is new to the area. We talked for hours… literally. I presume the Universe wanted us to meet.
The Moon Lodge was beautiful -- a sanctuary amidst the tumult and turmoil of the Faire. I hugged many friends I haven’t seen in quite some time. I managed to cruise the whole faire, help Dreadygoddess, eat a meal, catch my massage therapist in her concert of Turkish music, and still make it home for dinner by 6pm.
What I love most about the Faire is the sense of community. It doesn’t matter what I look like or what I might represent, I am accepted and loved. There is a sense of oneness. Even my conversations with people in lines and on busses were deep and connected. It is a beautiful thing. Thank you, Universe.
Saturday was spent gaming with amazing people. Really amazing. At GameStorm, earlier this year, I had the utmost pleasure of meeting Brian Underhill and
jakeboone. Brian traveled to Oregon and Jake invited G, myself,
pjack and
naudiz to participate in a game-a-thon with them. It was great fun! We mostly played a pulp RPG called “Spirit of the Century.” We haven’t finished, so I’m looking forward to reprising my role as the little Asian torch singer, Mai Ei (pronounced May I), who specializes in the Ninja style “Serving you Ceremonial Tea.” I had no idea I could kick that much evil arse in a beaded evening gown and 3” razor sharp stiletto heels. Who knew?
The best part of the day was the wonderful energy of the players. We had a GREAT time. All of us.
On Sunday, G and I returned for a few hours to Jake’s house and played Arkham Horror board game. It is Lovecraftian based lore, thus I was compelled to play. *giggles*
I really enjoyed watching Jake’s children interact with all us adults. They are super cool kids. Shannon is a beautiful woman who opened her home to all us geeks for the weekend. She and Jake are raising amazing human beings. The interaction of Jake and his oldest child almost made my heart weep with the joy of it. These are the moments where I don’t feel like all of humanity is doomed and that there is hope for our continued existence.
Sunday evening, G and I returned and had a lovely evening with
galfromdownunda at Sweet Basil.
A wonderful, wonderful weekend.

It didn't seem someplace I could bring Birdie, though, and Bill was dragging us through at breakneck speed.
Love the faire :)

The sign outside said for menustrating girls and women who need a rest though? She's not quite there yet. Unless I'm thinking of someplace different?
