I took Gana into the bathroom to cut off all the mats and snarls around the abrasion areas of skin and apply tea tree oil this afternoon. During this process, I also trimmed her feet hair. As the grooming progressed, I noticed a quantity of red, red blood on my white countertop. Upon further investigation, it was all over her legs and my left hand. I panicked. I began to guiltily search for the place I must have slipped and cut her. She never complains, but I didn’t even feel myself slip. Gah! Blood everywhere! I searched and searched, and more blood kept appearing, but no cut. Mom was trying to hold her so I could search better, but no cut.

Why?

Because I had cut my own hand, not Gana.

I’m that much of a freak that I don’t feel the scissors bite into my own flesh and spend 7 minutes examining Morgana for the source, instead.

What does that say about me? *rolls eyes*

I don't know. What does it say about me that I'm just relieved Gana wasn't hurt! :)

Me too! Since they require a lot of grooming, there has been the occasional slip in the past with scissors or nail clippers. They are never more than nicks, but they pain me more than any stabbing pain I've ever felt. Ah, motherhood!

We know what it says about you. And it's not at all surprising. More compassion for others than your own self. ;-}

Hee hee. I just think it's silly that I never felt the cut. I used to do that all the time at work as a jeweler. I'd hurt myself and not feel it at all until I noticed blood or went to wash my hands and the soap and water made me suddenly aware of the open wound. This is probably also why, when I've had migraines in the past, I can't feel them coming until I'm actually on the verge of wretching. Crazy, eh?

That is bizarre. My migraines gave me tons of warning to seek cover or risk vomiting on my shoes in the grocery store. I'm so glad *touch wood* that I haven't had one in eons.

Me too. By the time I realized I had one, it was too late for any medicines to touch it. My Mom can feel it coming and take meds to stop it in its tracks. Not me. I'm special. *rolls eyes*

I think it says "Miladycarol needs to take a few and spend some quality downtime or she's going to wander out into the street, in a state of confusion, confuse white for red, and get run down at a crosswalk."

or maybe you need a nap.

Mmmm... nap...

I have arranged a two day vacation for G and myself in February. I have that to look forward to in the future. Meanwhile, I'm trying to pay attention to myself, I'm just not good at it, that's all. *blush*

I promise not to go for walks unaided. *wink*

I had something similar happen with my dearly departed dog. (I think we "met" after he died, so you wouldn't know about him.) It didn't involve scissors, but somehow I'd scraped myself (maybe against a tree -- I don't remember the details), touched him, saw blood on him and thought *he* was hurt.

And panic ensued looking for his injury. Then, once you discovered that it was you, it was laughed off and easily dismissed, right? I was so relieved when I discovered that it was my blood that I finished trimming Gana, gave her treats for being such a sport, then ran out to tell G all about the incident... all before I decided to wash my hands and put some tea tree on the cut. *shakes head bemusedly*

I have done that many times with my work. "*gasp*! I must have hurt them! Oh noes!!! Oh, wait, that's me..."
