After the 3 hour mark in our odd stake-out situation, matters rapidly declined. They shut off most of Jefferson St. in front of the man’s house. Then we could hear people on loudspeakers trying to convince this poor suicidal man to pick up a telephone they placed on his front step so they could continue talking about the issues he had been discussing with his doctor. It even sounded like a son of his was out there pleading with him. The next time I looked out the front window, I noticed there was no traffic. You must understand that I live on a very busy intersection and there was no traffic at all. I looked down the street and saw they had closed off most of West 18th as well as Jefferson. These are two major arteries for this section of town. This was getting worse and worse. Then we heard and felt a huge *blam*. We gathered the dogs and all rendezvoused in the farthest room from this poor man’s house. There we sat on the floor for another 20 minutes or so waiting to see what happened.

It was an interesting time of reflection. I had spent a great chunk of time this morning trying to send some healing energy in the direction of the house without actually putting myself too close to a window. I don’t know if it helped, but I wanted this to resolve well. George and Flex had been working on fixing George’s computer which was aggravating him due to its lack of functionality. So here we are, three happy, content human beings of (mostly) sound mind experiencing only the most minor of frustrations in life, and not 50 yards away is some poor soul who is so troubled that he is contemplating doing horrible things to himself and goodness knows who else. All around this man, men and women are putting themselves in harm’s way to try to defuse the situation in the best way they can. Really, my troubles seem so petty. I almost always thank the universe on a daily basis that I have such a wonderful life, today, I don’t just thank her, I sing.

Eventually, we saw one of the policemen on our back deck. He said the situation was neutralized and it was safe to go about our business. I immediately asked if the poor man was okay and he explained that the *blam* was not a gun but some magnesium based noisy flare that they planted next to the door going off. He had apparently emerged from the door brandishing a knife and they set off this flare to temporarily blind and deafen him so he could be tackled and restrained. He is hopefully going to be well taken care of. I wish him wellness and healing.

I am actually quite impressed by the Eugene police. They were thorough, kind and professional. They had to stand out there covering us in the rain and the mud, not moving from their posts for hours. I am grateful that the situation was resolved and no one was hurt. I am hopeful that the poor man will find peace. I am saddened that it ever has to be this bad for anyone.

*Raising arms to the sky* Thank you, Universe! Thank you for taking such good care of me and never giving me obstacles so immense that I cannot overcome them. Thank you for my sanity, thank you for my gifts, and thank you for making shortcomings pretty darn tall. I appreciate all that you are and I vow to continue doing my best to make all that I influence happier as a result of my being here. I thank you for your patience and support when I fail and for allowing me the chance to correct my mistakes and opportunities to make matters better. Thank you for surrounding me with such goodness and wholesomeness from the people, creatures and trees to the soil that nurtures us all. Thank you, Universe. *low bow*
