Yesterday, I had Gisela and her husband, Gerry, over for lunch. It was great fun to cook for someone again. I love to plan meals for others to enjoy. It’s really hard cooking for G’s family because they have a very set expectation of how food should taste and be cooked. I don’t operate the same way. I take some of aMa’s practices and adopt them, but I always improvise.
Since I can’t cook as well as her for their tastes, it’s stressful. I like to just create in the kitchen and toss it at people to see what they think. I’ve missed that. So, I spent 2.5 hours in the kitchen making lunch and I have leftovers galore. I wish I could invite everyone else over to share them.
After they left, I just about collapsed from my aches. I have had some back pain for a couple days, but I’ve been managing it. I held it together all day, but once they left, I keeled over. Within a couple of hours, I had spiked a fever and ached all over. I am still trying to understand why. I’m better this morning, but sheesh. It was all very unexpected. I have had allergy mornings for the past week, but I didn’t think that would turn into a fever. Ah well, I feel better, and that’s the most important thing.

lurkitty to do this. So, here it is.
(in no particular order)
1. Tea. I love the whole tea ceremony, it’s so much more than just the smell and the taste. I love the zen of filtering the water, waiting for it to reach the perfect temperature for that type of tea, pouring it into the pot, waiting for it to steep and I especially love watching other people enjoy the tea as they sip it in comfort and contentment. It’s such a little thing to bring so much joy.
2. Touching. Whether it’s cuddling, hugging, or simply holding hands, what’s not to love about the simple warmth, security and love that touch offers.
3. Pets. I can’t explain how much it hurts me to be so far away from my babies. When they walk into a room, they bring joy and love with them. At their most challenging moments, they still bring me a pleasure beyond measure.
4. Growing food. There is nothing quite like knowing I’d like some basil in my salad, walking outside and harvesting it from my very own garden. It could be my imagination, but it tastes better to me.
5. Reading. As an only child, I depended heavily upon books as my friends. I love to be someone else for a while. It’s the ultimate escape.
6. Laughing. There’s nothing like laughter to lift the spirits.
7. Art. Whether it’s making jewelry, knitting, sculpting… it is my therapy. It heals my soul.
8. Cooking. There is the zen of chopping, the act of picking out the best parts of the fruits and veggies, the combining of them into something tasty and nutritious, and the pleasure of eating and sharing that goodness with others.
9. Music. I don’t play any instruments, but listening to music is an integral part of most of my experiences. I listen to it to create a mood, keep me company, I boogie to it while cleaning, cooking, creating art… there is always music in the background.
10. Moving. The freedom to hop on my bike, walk, hike up a mountain… I love that I can go outside and experience the sun, the rain, the breeze, the smell of the flowers and grass, all while transporting myself from one place to another.
Actually, I need to add an eleventh. It’s probably the most important of my simple pleasures, so no list would be complete without it.
11. Friends. Where would I be without my friends? They are my intentional family. They magnify all the other nine pleasures. When I can share any of my pleasures with a friend, that pleasure is intensified.

I don't know when I'm returning. I'll be home as soon as I am able, but I need to finish this project, first. Believe me, I'm homesick beyond belief and would be there tomorrow if I could.

Actually, when I woke yesterday morning, I felt fine. I spent most of the day trying to figure out what happened to me. There was no reason for me to be achey and sore, then spike a fever, then wake up fine. *shrugs* I'm glad it was over fast and that I'm okay now. Thanks, though. I'm always grateful for my health and I miss it terribly when it takes a holiday.

My heart aches...
These are my favorite things too love...and as quickly as I incorperate them is as quickly as something happens to make the reality of expereincing them slip through my fingers...
I don't do any of these things nearly enough...and definately not a fraction enough with you...
