We spent the afternoon at a mall re-claiming some Medicare money, watching King Kong on the big screen, and buying shoes. G's sneakers were a week bit too air conditioned and I wanted to buy another pair of hiking boots before I leave Au. The boots I purchased there in January of 2003 were the best shoe investment I've ever made. Usually, despite the slow and careful breaking-in process, hiking boots always necessitated application of moleskin in strategic spots to prevent blisters, supernovas and other tragic cataclysms. My current boots actually fit my different feet perfectly. They've taken me through Europe for 2.5 months, Japan, Queensland, the Blue Mountains, various US locations, as well as my beloved hometown and Mt. Pisgah several times a week. I've worn through a pair of insoles, changed the laces once already, pulled enough sand from Queensland out of them to start my own beach, and thanked them every step of the way. My feet have been tired but never painful. With my new insoles I figure I've still a bit of wear left in them. Now I have a new pair waiting in the wings, but until I need them, my trusty boots and I will continue scouring the globe together.
