What a lovely weekend.
Thursday, I had an afternoon with
lurkitty, then we headed off to fetch our Korean exchange student and her friend. We stopped at Sunrise and did a little grocery shopping, then I took notes as they prepared us a traditional Korean meal. Yummy!
After returning Areum and Yoko to their respective beds, Lurkitty and I returned to Avalonne where we spent the evening curled up on the couch watching The Gamers and A Christmas Story.
Friday, I woke, made breakfast, then Lurkitty and I ran an errand or two before retiring to Sweet Life for an afternoon of bludging over coffee, croissant and conversation (three of the mainstays of life).
After Lurkitty left, we packed up the car and headed up to Portland for a weekend of gaming at our friends’ house. We arrived late Friday night, set up computers and began the long struggle so common to a group of geeks trying to set up a LAN party.
Saturday morning, G and I took the MAX into town where I really needed to purchase my SPF face cream (I was scraping the bottom of the tubes). We had a lovely lunch at Todai (sushi) and then we watched a balloon animal maker twist his wares in the street while waiting for the MAX back. He made a turtle! Yay turtles! What a great afternoon with G. It was like a date! What fun!
Our LAN troubles continued into the next evening where we blew a breaker at one point, couldn’t get all the machines loaded properly, then, once we were all up and running, realized that Neverwinter Nights 2 was unwieldy when multiple players of different playing abilities were all trying to work together as a team. I won’t go into it now, but, suffice it to say, we were all a little frustrated. It was right about then that all the lights went out completely. And, by completely, I mean the whole west side of town. At first we were terribly concerned that we were the cause of overloading the system for the whole housing complex. Phone calls were made and battery run laptops were Googled and we discovered that two power plants were on fire. Hey, at least it wasn’t our fault… I think. *looks hopefully at the Universe*
Most people drove to their respective homes and the five of us settled around the living room in candle light sharing honey-baked peanuts, filberts, Clementine tangerines, Cotswold cheese, a bottle of Muscat and great conversation. We expected the power to be out for days, but it was on again later that morning.
The next day was relaxing and enjoyable. That evening, three of us played X-box while Brad and I played Dark Messiah. That was an AWESOME game! I only participated in a few hours of it but… whoa! Very impressive. We were all enjoying our games so much that we decided it was best to stay one more night rather than fight through fog and ice to drive home. We returned safely and soundly to our puppies who were more than happy to see us. I’m going to go snuggle with them in bed right now.
Oh, and a special thank you to
thekitsune who gave me a special holiday gift of an LJ yellow rose! What a wonderful thing to do! Thank you so much!!!
