I've spent the past two hours investigating how to repair my dryer and I'm no closer now than when I began. The squeaking is probably due to ball bearing, I'm suspecting. The belt looks fine, in my opinion. It's the burning smell that has me most worried. I can't find anything in all the websites and books I've read about the burning smell. The electric heating dish seems to be heating fine, there is no loss in speed of the tumbler nor heat generated, but I can't bring myself to use the dryer in this condition. Though I hate to admit defeat, I'm thinking I need to call in a professional.
Does anyone have recommendations for a dryer repair person. The machine is a Maytag and it's about 10 years old. What is the lifespan of a dryer, anyway? I think they should last for decades, or at least the one I grew up with seemed to last forever. Thanks for any help you can provide.
