My poor castle of Avalonne has been sadly ignored while I’ve been sitting about with my leg up on the desk. I reached a point… that straw and camel point. I scooted around on my office chair, gimped about the house and managed to clean much of the living room and dining room. I needed to recruit G for a bit of help, but … yay! I also cleaned the ferret cage, and I’m on my 6th load of laundry. Tomorrow… the two bathrooms and the kitchen. I’m pretty sure I’m going to pay for my ambitions later with lots of throbbing, so I’ve chucked an ice pack on my knee and plan to knit for a while and suss out the state of the pain. Maybe I can hit the kitchen later this evening. Goodness knows I need to cook. I’ve been living off of liquid nutrients and cereal so far today. There are some crimini mushrooms in the fridge begging to be made into vegan cream of mushroom soup. Begging. But I’d need to clean that kitchen first. *sigh* Good thing I’m not really hungry anyhow.

Re: you should do less

Sounds like wisdom to me. Thanks. You'd be surprised how much restraint I'm exhibiting. It has been 3.5 weeks since the injury occurred. I've been to see the doctor, massage therapist and had an MRI (results pending). I'm wearing a hinged knee brace, treating with Arnica, ice, infrared sauna therapy and rest. I'm scooting about the house on a wheeled office chair and managing the great outdoors on crutches. I am completely with the program about not wanting this to turn into a permanent disability. I have mountains to climb! Part of the reason one small area took me the whole day was because I rested and tried to employ reason as well as the dustrag. I appreciate your concern and thank you for it!

Please share your recipe for vegan cream of mushroom soup please, oh please!
That strikes my fancy! MMMM...comfort food...

Recipe? Ummm.... Well... *sputter, blush*

I can maybe try to write something down for you, but there really isn't a recipe, per se. I was winging it. G bought crimini mushrooms and I wanted soup. I needed to do it quickly and efficiently because I'm not supposed to be standing very long and it's really inconvenient chopping and stirring from the office chair. I feel like I'm 6 and can't reach the counter again. *grin*

I use my gravy base, then just add extra water to thin it into soup. It involves nuts, seeds, cornstarch and various herbs from my plants. Oh, and mushrooms. I'll try to compose something for you after my meeting.

You could use some comfort in the moment, I suspect.
*hug*

Please

Sounds lovely -- but I know how by guess and by golly cooking is and I get the gist of it. Gravy base is the key. I hadn't thought of putting nuts and seeds in it, either.

Don't hurry, we can talk later.
Thank you for the support. Things are about the same here.

Okay, the basic gravy recipe calls for
1/4 c nuts and/or seeds
1/2 c water
2T cornstarch
2T Braggs or soy sauce
herbs, spices, etc. to taste.

Chuck them all in the blender and liquidize.

Meanwhile, I usually have a skillet on the stove with onions sautéing in some olive oil. I put most of my herbs in that because I enjoy tasting little bits of them in the finished product. I also add the mushrooms and anything else I want into the skillet. I usually pour in a bit of wine and a touch of lemon juice.

When that is ready, I pour in the blender mix. Stir well and continue stirring as the cornstarch will thicken quickly and it could scorch.

I have a measuring cup on the side with a premeasured 1 3/4c water sitting next to the blender. I pour this in and hit high to capture all the rest of the gravy mix that didn't pour into the skillet, then I pour that into the skillet as well, continue to stir. If you want to make soup, I then add all kinds of veggies to add flavour to the broth. I could also make the broth and use that instead of water to clean the blender. I thin it out to the soup consistency I'd like.

Good luck. It's an experimental dish. All my cooking is experimental. Let me know how this turns out for you.
