Yesterday I was a complete sloth. I simply couldn't wake. I slept in until 11am. I think I was fighting off a bit of a virus that was trying to make its way through, but I think I nabbed it with all that sleep and a sauna. Still, I don't think that was enough sleep to equal the amount I lost over the weekend. *grin*

Today, I have things to accomplish. I have appointments and errands and must do all these while dodging puddles. It's really been raining the past few days and I foresee a rather drenching commute. Well, as long as there is no hail today... hail really hurts. The sensible bicycle commuter would pull off to the side of the road and wait, but not me. It's exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate for me! Wheee!

And now, a quiz. I couldn't resist the lure of this one. I just wish they would tell me what questions I had answered incorrectly.

I got 18. Fans go both ways, duh.

On a completely unrelated topic, I have a huge favor to ask of you. I'm coming down to Euegen in a couple of weeks for a conference, and need a place to crash. Could I possibly impose upon you and your couch? The dates in question are the 8th and 9th of April. I'll be your friend forever... ;)

No worries. We'll be home that weekend, come on down. Is the conference at the University? If you have a bike, bring it with you and everything is less than 15 minutes from here. Walking, obviously, takes longer. If the car is free, we can give you a lift. It's a 20 minute walk to the bus station from our house which is usually faster than waiting at the bus stop across the street.

Are you coming on the train or bus? It's a good 30 minute walk from the station, so if you give us a ring, we can fetch you and your bags.

Whee! Thankyouthankyouthankyou!

I need to figure out the specific logistics. Coming and going to Eugene via Amtrak. I want to catch the first speaker Friday night (it's at something like 5:30), so I may have to go straight to the campus from the train station, and head for your place after. I was assuming walking/bussing to and fro, so no worries there - you live somewhat west of the Safeway on 18th, no?

I'll let you know when I get it better figured out... which should be this weekend. Whee! Eugene! and tribe of 2 different kinds...

That's fine. I'll have fresh linens awaiting your arrival. What time do you think you'll be arriving here... at Avalonne, I mean? You'll be staying Friday and Saturday night? Leaving Sunday or Monday? What kind of foods should I have stocked for you. Sadly, I honestly can't remember if you have any food restrictions or preferences. Is there anything you would like to do while you are here that I might facilitate? Will you be in the conference the whole of the weekend or do you have some free time? I just want to plan my free time around yours.

I just got tickets. Unfortunately, the train times don't work for the conference schedule - so I'll be taking the Amtrak bus. It's actually not that bad - nothing like greyhound. Specifically, I'm taking bus #5501 from PDX to Eugene, arriving at about 1:40 pm on Friday April 8. The next later train/bus would get me there too late for the lecture that I want to go to, so... I'll have much of the afternoon to do whatever. Do you work on Fridays? If so, no worries, I can get around Eugene pretty well, and I can certainly find things to do. For instance, I know the UO art museum is all new and improved. Also, I may or may not be visiting my grandma, who may or may not be in town. More on this in my own journal.

BTW, I know loosely where you live, but not specifically. Shall we exchange numbers and addresses? My email is cholmes@spiritone.com

The titles of things in the conference flyer are pretty vague, so I'll know better what I really want to go to when I get there. I'm guessing I will escape for part of Saturday and Sunday. You certainly don't need to entertain me, but if you want to be social, I'm more than happy to oblige. I'd love to meet for tea with people, since that seems to happen a lot down there... I will probably have some old architecture folks I'd like to hang with as well, but I don't know who or when. How's that for vague?

Food-wise, I don't have any specific allergies, but foods I can't stand are: coffee, eggs, melon, and shrimp-like things. Also, please let me take you guys out at some point! It's the least I can do!

My bus on Sunday leaves at 2:50 pm, which is about an hour after the last keynote speaker. Depending on how things go, I may spring for the earlier train, or even snag a ride back up to PDX from someone.

I hope that helps clarify a bit...

I can arrange to meet you at the station, if you'd like, on Friday. I'm not working this weekend. Other than a gem fair at the Fair Grounds next door and a strong desire to have brunch at Saturday Market, I have no great plans. I'll send you my vitals in email form.

I'm looking forward to seeing you this weekend.

slight change in plans

I'm still coming down there Friday, but the grandma thing is getting curiouser and curiouser. I was starting to make this internal mental plan to skip thec onference Sunday, head to Corvallis that morning, and home per my original plan. You see, grandma live in Eugene, but by this weekend she will most likely be in Corvallis for her physical therapy/etc.

Then I got another phone call this morning. My sister, who normally resides in Michigan, was in Phoenix, on a layover on her way home to visit grandma. 1) I'd like to see her, and 2) her plane leaves exceedingly early Sunday morning from PDX, with my parents planning on giving her a ride - which means that me showing up at the trainstation in Albany Sunday morning won't really fly.

So... the tentative plan now is: Friday - go to Euegene, show up at 1:40. Socialize, go to lecture, socialize, crash. Saturday: *maybe* go to something in the morning if I really really want to and th train schedule is amenable. Take train to Albany (the nearest stop to Corvallis), visit grandma. Head up to Portland with my sister and probably parents, so that she can crash at my place and not get up quite so terribly early.

Whew! So my laid-back weekend has become like an episode of The Amazing Race. I thought of maybe not going to Eugene at all, but dang it, I'd love to see you, I'm looking forward to seeing old arch friends as well, I want to go to that lecture (it better be good..), and I already paid for it anyways.

I hope that didn't stress you out... I'll see you Friday. Anything you want from Portland?

Re: slight change in plans

No worries. I can work with your schedule. I think the lecture and your Grandma take first priority. You can always come down to visit with me. My home is always open to you.

So, unless your plans change again, shall I come fetch you at the train station at 1:40? I assume the Amtrak bus drops off at the train station.

Re: slight change in plans

A pick up at the train station would be lovely. And yes, it should be in at about 1:40, at the train station. There are a few hours between that and the lecture, if you'd like to hang out!

I just had a fun phone call with my dad, where we both tried to tie our completely vague Saturday schedules to the other's vague schedule. Dad says he'll pick me up Saturday, when and where is sorta up to me, though it will probably be late morning/early afternoon. Do you mind if I send your addy/number on to him?
