I’m so excited. I’m finally taking a knitting lesson. I’ve been waiting for this for months and the time has arrived… just in time for summer! Wheee! *shakes head* It started out as a strong desire to make my own scarves because it’s nearly impossible to find a quality Dr. Who length scarf out there in the world. I also have loose plans to make Hogwarts house scarves for my Tribe at the next Orycon. We’ll see. But that was supposed to be it. All I need is yet another artistic medium! Yet, I bought the book and I’m a scarf making fool now! I also have this really great sweater with a loose knit of cotton that I absolutely love. I want to be able to make more of them. In lots of colours. How did I wander from a scarf or two into the strong desire to make sweaters? Gah! Why do I even do these things to myself? *wanders off bewildered to collect her knitting needles*

I'm guessing you did it the same way I did (though my mother really turned me off of scarves years ago when she tried to teach me to knit...) I've been knitting SOCKS recently (They're small, and they'll be easy to knit in summer when it's too warm to knit sweaters.)

I just boughth THIS pattern http://www.whiteliesdesigns.com/index.html (the one on the main page) and can hardly wait to make my new lace jacket!!! Watch out. Knitting can be addictive. I haven't stitched a lot in about 3 months. :P

Yes, knitting IS addictive. I was doing great knitting scarves, yearning to learn more, and now that I've learned how to perl and rib, I want to do more, but there isn't another lesson until Monday. Ack! Must. Know. Now! Bah! Our next lesson involves learning how to follow a pattern. She suggested either a hat or a scarf. I picked out a beret pattern and some mulberry wool. I'm hoping to make a decent enough beret to give my Mom.

The lace jacket is gorgeous. I really hope someone will be able to help me figure out how to make a copy of the sweater I like so much. I'm a crazy hack, so I'll likely go off on some half-cocked journey into trying to do it myself. I already have the dyed cotton I want in my sites. *grin*

New obsession, here I come!

*shakes mighty fists* Dang it! Don't feed the new addiction! *stomps off grumbling about stupid beautiful yarn and stupid art and stupid beads and stupid all the other tools I need for all my stupid creative outlets*

Petulance. The art of the damned.

*winks and giggles*

well carol... if you ever want a place to ask crafty questions i'm in a LJ craft community called farble. i'm not much of a knitter myself but i do believe that there is at least another knitter there.

That's good to know. I'm going to see how far these three lessons take me, then I'm all over raping and pillaging info from anyone who will sit still long enough for me to pounce upon them. Maybe I'll ge good enough to knit lace someday. Then I can make lace for you to put around your quilted wonders. *grins*

Oh, and I just went to fully examine the first site you showed me and the garments there are GORGEOUS! I already see a cardigan and a pullover that I absolutely must have.

It occurs to me that we both share a lot of common interests. Or, at least, complimentary ones. It's a shame that we are so far apart and that we really never had the chance to know each other when you were here. I regret that a lot. I'm always trying to recruit my friends for a crafting night but it is a rare thing that they assent. *sigh*
