Today we had an “at home” day. We scheduled a few appointments for kitchen designers to come out and give us estimates. In between appointments, I cosied up to the yellow pages and began to research all my hobbies and how Sydney would fare in supplying me with my life’s little necessities. I was relieved to find a huge ceramics/pottery section that included materials and kiln firing. There are just tons of art supply shops and craft places. Best of all, there are three columns of jeweller’s supply shops! Three whole columns! There are platers, gold and silver stock suppliers, chain shops, casters, tool and finding suppliers… oh my! Me little heart just a pattered away at such a beautiful sight! I haven’t had access to this much jewellery industry since I left RI. *happy sigh*

I also found one (only one, but hey, that’s all I really need) Victoria’s Secret shop to keep me supplied in bras.

There is a list of organic and natural food shops scattered about. None of them are terribly close to me. I went to the closest one already and it is very tiny with minimal supplies. Not much of anything I need. As a matter of fact, I found nothing that looked familiar to the product names I’m used to in Oregon. There is hope, however. Apparently there is one big huge market near downtown Sydney. George and I are hoping to go tomorrow. I’m in dire need of laundry soap and toothpaste. I’ve been washing my clothes with no detergent at all because the only stuff in the house is this really vile powdered stuff with lots of nasty ingredients.

The Family has gone a long way in this world by spending the smallest amount of money possible for their supplies. This is great up to a point. The household chemicals are frightening to me. All their soaps, detergents, shampoos, etc. are filled with scary poisons that I’ve eliminated from my house years ago. I’m going to take it one step at a time and just restock the house for them. I’m hoping I can find the proper supplies here. I may not be able to convince them that what I’m buying is better, but if I put it in front of them and it’s all that is left to use, maybe they will just use it. I’ll try to convert, but I’ll settle for passive usage.

Okay, that was my exciting discovery for the morning. Maybe big city living won’t be so bad after all. Oh, beauteous light at the end of yonder tunnel, be thou approaching? Closer, yeah, closer still! Come to me!
