KABOOM! The house rattled. I searched around, nothing seemed wrong. It was late, dark, and the whole family was nestled in bed. So, finding the forces of evil were not upon my doorstep, there I returned. I woke at some wee hour of the morning, went to the bathroom, and noticed the fuse box cover open. I heard prowling and went to investigate. It was Flex. He said the some truck hit a utility pole and our electricity was out. Okay, no problem for me, I was asleep anyhow. Then my alarm rang and there was still no electricity. I hit snooze for 30 minutes and still no electricity. *sigh* Unfortunately, everything in this house is run on electricity. Tired of waiting in limbo, I decided upon action. I rose, checked the fuse box to make sure everything was on, noticed the utility workers out in the school parking lot, and I began to light candles.

Actually, I love when the electricity goes out. It’s soooo quiet. It’s very dark. It straddles creepy and peaceful simultaneously. *shivers with excitement* How fun.

The electricity is back on now, and I’m contentedly cooking breakfast. I tried to shout my thanks to the two men who were out in the cold and darkness restoring my electricity, but they couldn’t hear me. I just wrote my electrical board an email to thank them. Too many times people only hear the complaints. Once in a while, it makes the job all worth while to hear a compliment and some thanks. I hope they really do forward it to them.

I generally like no electricity. Except for year before last's ice storm, where it was missing for 6 days in below freezing temps. :) People out here fire up their coleman stoves, make coffe or hot chocolate or hot apple cider fill their thermoses and take it out to the work-guys. :)

They seem to appreciate it. It's that sort of thing that makes me love the South. (Though I do still miss Eugene and the PNW.)

Six days is a pretty good run. I have had power out for up to two weeks before due to blizzards. Yep, RI native here. We had both hurricanes and blizzards and the occasional twister rolling through town. Fun stuff. *rolls eyes* I really don't miss anything about the weather of RI except the amazing thunderstorms.
