The pace of my life in Sydney has slowed a bit. Part of me is grateful for the relaxation time and additional hours of sleep. The other part is very unfulfilled, though. When I shift out of high gear, I immediately look forward to spending time with friends. One of the deficits of city life is that friends rarely have time to spend with each other. *heavy sigh*
On a related note, there is a new chat feature on Google. Is anyone using this? I'm not going to bother downloading the Yahoo chat until I have my own computer. I feel like I've been out of touch for so long I don't even know where people are. What engines are people using these days?
I had a nice weekend. There is a big home and gift industry trade show that comes to Sydney for retailers. Since my cousin has a retail shop, he was able to bring us as guests. It was really fun seeing the items being marketed for the new season. It was also interesting seeing the wholesale prices of things. Items actually look affordable at wholesale prices. I've noticed that everything here is so much more expensive than back home. The fresh food is less expensive for conventional, the organic is more expensive. But all dry goods and imports have become outrageous since the GST (Goods and Services Tax) was added.
Regardless, I had fun running amok at the show. I even bought some beads for twice the price I would pay in America rather than the 3.5 times found at retail bead stores. I know I've paid too much, but I really need to keep working. I only brought a few projects and I'm flat out of materials. I'm going to have to see if some of my US connections will ship to Australia without it costing parts of my anatomy as shipping fees.
I'm not sure what the day has in store, but I'm happy about the sun shining on the tree of purple flowers outside my window. And that's a good start.
